My Toothbrush Did a 360 Assessment, And It Doesn’t Look Good

It all started during the last performance review. My toothbrush “strongly disagreed” (quoting it here) with my proposed performance improvement plan and asked for escalation to my boss. I certainly didn’t want to involve my Mother in this, and we compromised on a 360 survey. We agreed I wouldn’t participate, my point of view was already clear, and that It would pick the respondents without my interfering.

Peers were easy enough to name. My Partner and Daughter’s toothbrushes were clear choices and, of course, on top of the list. I was more than ok with them; I knew for a fact they had constructive feedback to give. Truth be told, the sh*t sandwich had the size of a double whopper, and my toothbrush was certainly not going to like the taste of it. We argued whether or not my current Lover’s toothbrush should be included. They were still in the passionate beginning phase of the relationship, and I felt like it wouldn’t be the impartial view we were expecting within a 360 assessment. But, as agreed, it was Its call to make.

When it comes to direct reports, I must admit I got surprised. I didn’t think my toothbrush thought itself to be such a big boss. Toothpaste was a reasonable one. Dental floss made some sense. But the sink and the toothbrush holder? I would consider them more as partners than subordinates. However…
