I liked the heap metaphor. Made me think that one can go the other way and take away a grain of sand, leaving the heap a heap. Same thing but different direction which made it interestingly different for me.

And on a related topic, it seems to me that discontinuities are very difficult to apprehend. Typically we live every day like yesterday till the day we die. Would you have some recommended readings around the idea of discontinuities?
