I don't think so.

Medium says in their FAQs that the claps are used to show the readers more of what they like. Clap 1 for every stories and 50 for one => you'll get more of the one for which you clapped 50.

Clap 50 for every stories = the algo doesn't know what you like.

Number of claps might be used by the algo, but it's much less relevant than reading time for example. Also if the algo used number of claps, it would use it as above, in comparison to the regular amount of claps you leave.
