I don't believe all authors post on Medium in good faith and I think the potential for abuse can be limited (bu not showing the button publicly, for example) and is already limited on Medium because people have to pay to be a member and use it.

Some articles are pure ragebait and arguing your points in the comments is only helping the article get more views because the algorithm thinks it's "engaging." I wish I could downvote such articles.
