I agree! Several people in the comments were voting for 1–5 system which sound better. At least on paper.

At the same time I came to enjoy the mathematical possiblities of the 50 claps :D

I think I read in Medium FAQs that the relative number of claps a reader leaves is taken into account by the algo to design its recommendations.
