Except for celebs, my new theory is that it works as a patronage. Some people like your ideas so much that they pay you to write more. Doesn’t necessarily mean they will read everything. I particularly feel that way with political substacks.

From what I saw, there’s also the high business value road. People who are experts about a topic can monetize their knowledge on Substack with 1/1 calls for top tiers.
