Drill llird
«Drill, drill as hard and as deep as you can. Drill holes everywhere, walls and floor. Drill through wood, concrete and tiles. Have some fun and then keep on going. Drill till even your ears will be shaking. I want your hands to be numb, so numb you’re not feeling the handle anymore, so numb, the drill becomes part of your body, the logical and natural end to your arms. The rules of engagement are fairly simple, there are none. Do you understand?» the owner asked.
Paul had accepted this contract, mostly attracted by the fact it was to be conducted on a regular basis. The classified specified an experienced driller was needed one day a week for the next six months. It was generously paid and quite easy to fit in his schedule. Anyway, clients were by now used to see their contractors disappear from the job site for a day or two. They would even be disappointed to have someone true to his words, coming every day and respecting delays. How could they then complain to their friends and colleagues? They might even require a discount for a job performed too well!
«Yes, I understand» answered Paul, «but I must ask: why? It’s going to be very noisy and pretty much useless.»
«Absolutely not, on the contrary» his new boss replied, «it’s going to be very much useful. Being noisy is the very purpose of your presence here today and each week for the next six months. The case is ridiculously simple, I hate my neighbour.»
