«What’s new and exciting» he asked. Pakul wondered what to answer. He wanted to be witty, but had already used the «I’m old and boring» line. He wished for having new and exciting things to tell, but didn’t know where to find them.

To him, wind blowing in the branches of the trees was exciting, albeit not new. His former zen master would happily bullshit around that each wind is different and yet the same. But, thankfully, he had given up on this self appointed crook after reaching the blue belt with the silver and gold cross of Leuwenite. He remembered being proud at first, receiving it on stage in front of all the other gullible members. And then he had an illumination. Very buddhist of him. He was undoubtedly on the wrong path. He might not understand much of zen, and might never be able to. But this zen training path was a scam. He was ready to bet all his toes on that one. And he had been given twelve of them.

Actually, wind blowing in the branches of the trees was not exciting at all. Even in his most zen moments, he couldn’t appreciate, couldn’t fathom the idea of someone appreciating any wind blowing in any branch of any tree, as being more exciting than a box of nine chicken nuggets with barbecue sauce. Just to pick an example. Clearly, he had many more in mind.

Pakul made up his mind and decided to tell the truth in the end: «the t-shirt I’m wearing is new! I bought it yesterday, and I’m super excited about showing it to the cashier when I go for groceries later today. She will comment on it for sure. She has an eye for this kind of stuff.»
